Mudbug Madness has seeped into the Shreveport Times. Of the 53 photos covering Thursday's VIP crawfish eating contest at Shreveport's Festival Plaza, 20 of them featured castmembers of the show Billy the Exterminator.
Who should have scored more coverage? We pick KRMD's funny and cute Hillary Edman. She made the best faces during the contest. What a character!

The Forum Sexist?
They say they are "Northwest Louisiana's premier newspaper." Perhaps, if this was 1910 instead of 2010.
Why is this old white guy getting paid to write nuggets like this one found on page five of the May 19, 2010 edition " Girlie talk ... 'She was really glad the bank returned the check she wrote. Now, she can spend it somewhere else.'"
Just a little fun? No. A research project led by Western Carolina University psychology professor, Thomas E. Ford, indicates that sexist jokes are not just harmless fun and games; instead, exposure to sexist humor can lead to toleration of hostile feelings and discrimination against women.
Why would Willis Knighton, Christus Schumpert, Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Diamond Jacks, Boomtown, Horseshoe and Sam's Town spend their advertising dollars to support this? Surely, those places have human resource departments even if The Forum doesn't.

SB - Sometimes Controversial
SB Magazine and has done a fine job of covering the theater scene in the May 2010 issue. Too bad the magazine isn't called NY.

Southern Trace Shreveport Boring Enough to Snag the ABC TV Show The Gates
If someone said you lived in a homogeneous subdivision filled with cookie-cutter houses would you be offended? Residents in Southern Trace, a golf course gated community, are thrilled to be the most uninspiring community in Louisiana. The 425-home neighborhood in southeast Shreveport beat out Baton Rouge's Country Club of Louisiana subdivision for filming of the new television series "The Gates."
From the May 16 edition of The Shreveport Times - "The producer told me they liked the architecture of our homes better," Jerry Phillips, president of the Southern Trace Homeowners Association said. "They were looking for more homogeneous-looking homes."

Effective Eradication of Saggin'
Saggers are safe in Louisiana. KTBS reports another attempt to make it illegal for people to wear underwear revealing pants in Louisiana has been shot down.
Do we need a law banning this? SF says if you wanna abolish saggin' just pass out pictures of Stringbean. That banjo playing buffoon was doing it on the Grand Ole Opry in the 1950s. Talk about old school.

April - A Good Time To Celebrate White People
Anybody else find celebrating "Holiday in Dixie" a tad creepy? Even the official website for HID says "The initial Holiday in Dixie was a large five day pageant staged with a cast of hundreds at the State Fair stadium. The pageant was called 'Salute to the Southland.' "
The Plantation Ball (pictured above) is the most hard core, with all those white Colonel Sanders suits and black string ties. In a city where the racial makeup is 50.80% African American and 46.66% White, maybe it's time to retire HID and create a new holiday. If we want to be "The Next Great City of the South" how about we come up with something more progressive, like Austin's South by Southwest Conference and Festival? To see pictures of the Plantation Ball see pages 10-11 in the May 2010 issue of City Life (sister publication to The Forum News).

Bestiality at Harrah's Louisiana Downs
So who's in charge of Harrah's sexual harassment policy? The world's largest gaming company has got to have one. From Harrah's official website "She's Feisty and She is ready to showcase her new digs! The Feisty Nag is our new food outlet at Harrah's Louisiana Downs....It’s fun and casual with a lot of wit and personality."
Shreveport Man Glues Himself to Comedian
Stargazing gets pretty rad in Shreveport. Apparently not content to just ask for an autograph, this rabid fan super glued himself to Bobcat Goldthwait. The comedian was in town for an appearance at The Funny Bone.
